Robert J. Valas, CPA, MBA, CFE

Shareholder & Director

Robert J. Valas, CPA, MBA, CFE is a seasoned accounting and finance professional with extensive experience providing audit, accounting, tax and consulting services.  For over twenty-five years, Mr. Valas has worked with businesses engaged in manufacturing, wholesale/distribution, technology, publishing, healthcare, financial services, real estate, engineering/construction, and professional service firms.

His specialties include Technical Accounting & Audit Advisory, Tax Planning & Compliance, Financial Reporting (US GAAP & IFRS), SEC Reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance, Public and Private Equity, Mergers & Acquisitions, Divestitures, Restructuring, Business Valuations, Forensics & Cybersecurity, and Litigation Support.

Mr. Valas received a BBA in Accounting from Pace University and an MBA in Finance from Saint Peter’s University. He is licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Sean P. Breheney, CPA, MBA
Principal

Sean P. Breheney, CPA, MBA is an experienced accounting and tax professional with experience providing accounting, tax, and advisory services.  For over 11 years, Mr. Breheney has worked with businesses in the industries of manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, engineering, real estate, construction, and professional services.  His specialties include tax planning, compliance, and consultation.

Mr. Breheney, also an Eagle Scout, received a BA in accounting from Montclair State University as well as an MBA from Montclair State University’s graduate program.  He is licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Academy of Dental CPA’s.

Ronald Angulo, CPA
Manager

Ronald Angulo is an Audit Manager with over ten years of experience in the audit field.  Mr. Angulo began his career as an audit analyst at Deloitte and Touche, LLP before moving on to KPMG and Baker Tilly, LLC.  His prior experience includes a variety of accounting and audit assignments including manufacturing, financial services, transportation, higher education, and not-for-profit. Throughout his tenure in these firms, Mr. Angulo has acquired exceptional collaboration skills to build relationships with clients and team members, as well as analytical and leadership skills to conduct audit engagements in accordance with financial and regulatory standards.

International Fraud Awareness Week kicks off Nov. 12, 2017 worldwide

Fraud costs organizations worldwide an estimated 5 percent of their annual revenues, according to a study conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). The ACFE’s 2016 Report to the Nations on Occupational Fraud and Abuse analyzed 2,410 occupational fraud cases that caused a total loss of more than $6.3 billion. It's here – Our Newly-Redesigned Logo!

Earlier this summer we announced the acquisition of local CPA firm Richard L. Olster, PA (Olster). As part of that process, and along with our new office renovation (you should stop by!), we have launched a new logo to reflect our firm’s forward-thinking services and direction.

“We thought that our external image should reflect our internal image. We have traditionally used royal blue in our logo; but, we thought the steel color adds some strength to it,” commented David J Goodman CPA, MST, the firm’s managing director.

Our firm is about having profound impacts, so we added that to our logo. Profound impacts are deep, meaningful results. That’s why our team comes to LB Goodman & Co each day. We have also shortened our name for easier communication.

Along with these changes, we have officially registered our firm in Florida and are pursuing opportunities throughout the state.

Fair Lawn CPA Firm Grows Through Acquisition

Fair Lawn, NJ, July 1, 2017:  Effective June 30, 2017, NJ-based CPA firm, Lawrence B Goodman & Co PA (LB Goodman & CO), announced the acquisition of local CPA firm Richard L Olster, PA (Olster). The acquisition increases LB Goodman & CO’s resources to provide tax, accounting, and financial services to closely-held companies in the NY metro area.

Richard Olster, CPA, former managing partner of Olster, will join LB Goodman & CO as a Senior Client Services Director.  Rich stated, “We believe the merger will greatly benefit our clients and we look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with LB Goodman & Co.”

“There is a synergy of clients between the two firms that made sense for this acquisition. The clients of both firms will benefit from this merger,” said David J Goodman, President and Managing Director of LB Goodman & CO.

Two additional staff members from Olster will join LB Goodman & CO as part of the acquisition.

This survey and award program identifies, recognizes and honors the top places of employment in New Jersey that benefit the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Places to Work in New Jersey program is made up of 100 companies split into two groups: 65 small/medium-sized companies (15-249 employees) and 35 large-sized companies (more than 250 employees). Lawrence B. Goodman & Co.,PA has been named one of the Best Places to Work in New Jersey in the small/medium category.

For over 40 successful years, Lawrence B. Goodman & Co., PA has provided tax, accounting and consulting services to closely held businesses across a wide array of industries, individuals and our niche-dental practices. Lawrence B. Goodman & Co., PA is dedicated to the three underlying principles of professionalism, responsiveness and quality.

To qualify, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Have at least 15 employees in New Jersey
  • Be a for-profit, not-for-profit or government entity
  • Be a publicly or privately held business
  • Have a facility in New Jersey

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in New Jersey. Part one consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This phase was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. Part two consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This phase was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.

The overall registration and survey process was managed by Best Companies Group (BCG). BCG also analyzed the data provided and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.

The award program, created in 2005, is produced by NJBIZ. NJBIZ, program sponsors and partners will honor this year?s 100 Best Places to Work and announce their ranking during an awards reception and ceremony on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Hilton East Brunswick.

The program sponsors are: Gibbons PC, Novo Nordisk and Robert Half. The program is in partnership with the Employers Association of New Jersey.

TBTI- The Best There Is

 

The 2014 Lawrence B. Goodman Firm Retreat was held at the Women's Club of Englewood on May 28, 2014. Many discussions and ideas were exchanged on how we can continue to improve our firm, ourselves, and better serve our clients. In addition, we made time for some fun activities and delicious food.

2014 Tulane Alumni Awards Gala


The 2014 Tulane Alumni Awards Gala took place on April 12 at the Freedom Pavilion of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. The celebration began with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres just outside the Freedom Pavilion, and officially started with the presentation of the colors by the Tulane University Naval ROTC and a performance of the National Anthem by the Green Wave Brass Band.

The International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement was presented to Essam Alzamel (E '02), the Scott Cowen Alumni Service Award to David J. Goodman (B '86), the Young Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award to Elliott J. Wiener (B '07), and the Alumni Professional Achievement Award to Hans A. B. Jonassen (A&S '63). Three of these awards were presented for the first time: the Alumni Professional Achievement Award, the International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement, and the Scott Cowen Alumni Service Award.

Our staff was treated to a day at the movies in our own private auditorium, followed by an “ al fresco” southwestern lunch and a visit from the ice cream truck. A wonderful day filled with appreciation and fun after another successful tax season.

David J. Goodman - Service Award Recipient

It is with great pride that we congratulate David J. Goodman for being the first recipient of the Scott Cowen Alumni Service Award from his Alma Mater, Tulane University. David is involved in many philanthropic efforts including Klene Up Krewe, which he founded in 2006 with 2 other partners in order to help with the rebuilding of New Orleans. David will be honored at the Tulane Alumni Awards Celebration Gala in New Orleans on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

The Scott Cowen Alumni Service Award

The Scott Cowen Alumni Service Award is given for extended, extraordinary service to the University and local communities. Named after Tulane's beloved 14th President, it recognizes the achievements of alumni who, through their dedicated and voluntary efforts, support the programs and mission of Tulane and their communities. The recipient must prove to have expressed his or her gratitude to the University and ensure a growing impact on the Tulane community and future generations of students. Efforts may include working on behalf of the University through service in alumni programs, on advisory committees, and/or through efforts made to ensure the welfare of the institution and alumni. Additionally, the award honors alumni who have unselfishly and generously contributed their time and talents for the enrichment of others and the betterment of their communities, and recognizes those individuals who have given of themselves in support of various civic, charitable, philanthropic and social welfare organizations.
